This text alternative provides an accessible summary of the Flexible Work Location visual flowchart [PDF].

Overview of chart structure

Chart begins when an employee has an initial conversation with their manager, then the employee submits a Flexible working request form.

If the request includes a change to work location where home is one of the locations, the employee must complete a health, safety, and wellbeing self-assessment.

The manager and employee meet to formally discuss the flexible working request, then the manager confirms the outcome in writing.

If the request is agreed upon, the Flexible working agreement form is completed. It is reviewed as documented in the flexible working agreement.

The manager and employee meet to review the flexible working agreement. If the employee or their manager requests a change and it is agreed upon, the flexible working agreement is updated.

If the employee’s request is not agreed, they can appeal. At the appeal hearing, there are 3 possible outcomes:

  1. Appeal upheld
  2. Alternative proposed by appeal panel
  3. Appeal not upheld

If the outcome is 1, appeal upheld, the flexible working agreement is completed, then reviewed as documented.

If the outcome is 2, alternative proposed by the appeal panel, the employee can choose to accept or reject it. If the employee accepts the appeal panel proposal, the flexible working agreement is completed, then reviewed as documented.

If the outcome is 3, appeal not upheld, the process ends.
