Overview of chart structure

Chart begins when an employee has an initial conversation with manager. Then the question is asked, is the employee looking for partial retirement?

If the employee is looking for partial retirement, they are referred to the Flexible Work Pattern Policy. If a flexible work pattern is agreed upon, the employee submits an NHS pension application form, and the process ends.

If the employee is not looking for partial retirement, there are 3 steps:

  1. Employee submits NHS pension application form and formal notification of termination of employment.
  2. Employee and manager discuss arrangements for retirement.
  3. Then the question is asked, does the employee wish to retire and return?

If the employee wishes to retire and return, they must submit an application form to their manager. If their request is granted, they may be able to access phased retirement, if eligible. The manager confirms retirement arrangements, and then the employee retires.

The employee can appeal if their retire and return request is not agreed upon.

If the employee does not wish to retire and return, they may be able to access phased retirement if eligible. The manager confirms retirement arrangements, and then the employee retires.
